As President of the Contra Costa Psychological Association (CCPA), the local chapter of
the California Psychological Association, I was very proud to receive the "Diamond Award" for "Outstanding Service to the Profession of Psychology" in January, 2009. I also received the CCPA "Outstanding Service Award" in January, 2007.
Over the past 10 years,
I've enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors of CCPA. We strive to inspire a warm and supportive professional community, create
excellent educational and networking opportunities for the psychologists
in Contra Costa, and to keep our profession at the cutting edge.
As Chairperson of the
Information and Referral Network, I helped strengthen our professional
network and improve our website
with the "Find-A-Psychologist" search engine, which allows professionals
and consumers to enter criteria to generate specific matches to the
qualified psychologists in our network (browse: Cocopsych.org). Currently, I serve as "Member at Large" and host our ongoing Professional Networking Group.
| I'm
also enthusiastic about protecting the field of clinical psychology and
have served in the Leadership and Advocacy program of the California
Psychological Association, promoting public mental health care through
legislative advocacy in Sacramento.
I believe
that psychologists play a pivotal role in understanding the Mind/Body
relationship and promoting psychological well-being. Physical and mental
health are intertwined and depend on a number of factors, including
genetic constitution, early family and social experience, neurological
and biochemical factors. Psychologists are uniquely trained to
understand and incorporate these factors when rendering mental health services,
and should encourage their patients to consider their behavioral and
life-style choices, stress, nutrition, exercise and spirituality.
I
promote APA's public education campaign and hope to inspire people in
the Bay Area to learn about Mind/Body Health, manage their highly
stressful and pressured lives and find access to qualified psychological
care when needed. (You can find more mind/body health information at APAhelpcenter.org.)
